Moss Point Mississippi
Moss Point is located just north of Pascagoula, MS in Jackson County, approximately 20 miles from Biloxi, 90 miles from New Orleans, LA, and a 30-minute drive from Mobile, AL. Moss Point is also just eight miles from the Gulf of Mexico and is a city on the move; yet it offers tranquil, natural beauty blended with southern charm.
Since the mid-to-late 1800s, Moss Point MS has been a lively river town pulsating to the rhythm of the ocean’s tides. Today, the city has a population of nearly 16,000 people and has two main goals: one is to stimulate economic development, and the other is to provide high quality services to its citizens. With aggressive leadership, the city is now poised to become bigger and better than ever.
To that end, it has taken on a redevelopment plan for the downtown area to create an environment that is pedestrian friendly with lots of green space among the many mixed use buildings. The downtown mixed use buildings include shops and cafés with the upper stories offering residential and office spaces with spectacular river views. The streets are improved with sidewalks and landscaping to promote pedestrian traffic.
Expansion of the riverfront park has created a perfect place for public gatherings as well as for relaxation. Future plans for the city don’t stop downtown. There are plans for many neighborhoods to include parks, sidewalks, bike paths, and more. The end result will be a unique shopping, working, and residential experience for the residents and for guests visiting the city.
Education is extremely important to Moss Point MS, as evidenced by the abundance of learning environments found here. Beginning with the numerous preschools and daycares and the K-12 education, the Moss Point School District provides public school education at 6 elementary schools, one junior high school, one high school and one alternative school. The Diocese of Biloxi provides private education through its one pre-K-6 school and one combination middle/high school for grades 6 through 12. For both traditional and non-traditional students who are seeking to further their education, there are four colleges offering four-year degrees, one two-year community college, and several technical schools and seminaries, all within 40 miles of the city.
